"Mann Tracht, Un Gott Lacht" - Unknown
Welcome….

Hi, My name is Milton. I am here to share my journey through learning to sew, pattern Drafting, design, and Now teaching.
Admittedly, this site is still very much under construction.
Thank you for visiting! While I talk, in several places, about traditionally under served or marginalized groups, I cannot say more emphatically “ALL ARE WELCOME“. I won’t waste time trying to restate what so many wise people have already realized. I embrace the exchange of ideas.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” – Michael Jordan
“Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability.” – Patrick Lencioni
“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.” – Napolean Hill
“If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” – Booker T. Washington
“None of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.” – Mother Teresa
Who is Dude?
OK, that is a fair, acceptable, and appropriate question in this particular situation. In preparation for putting electrons to page, I thought long and hard about what might resonate with my target audience. I am going for the guys out there that may feel trepidations declaring to the world “I sew”. I can go down my version of the so commonly heard stories of feeling the need to repress my desires to express myself out of a fear for how society might respond. That is a different Blog. I kept coming back to the most macho he-man archetype male figure in my life. That was my Uncle Dude. Dude was a dying breed. He was true cowboy; as in, he actually ran a dairy farm from horseback dawn to dusk EVERY day. Unfortunately, Dude passed while I was still quite young. However, one of my most memorable moments with him was when he passed on words earned in life experience. “You have to live life on your own terms. F**K what people think. Are you living to make them happy?” So, it is with great love and admiration for him that I have coopted his memory in hopes the name conveys pride and confidence in being a man while still embracing the adventure of what might be. Wherever you are Uncle Dude, I love you!
My Goal…..
I aspire to inspire anyone who would like to explore the art of clothing design and construction. For any of you that are just starting out, we all have to start somewhere. Let me hear how I can help.
As a young man, I ventured into the world of sewing inspired by my mother, I rapidly came to understand that the options for prepared patterns and fabric, aligning with “acceptable” men’s attire, were slim to non-existent at the time. We won’t go into how many decades ago that was…. My goal is to become the champion for anyone regardless of gender who wants to explore the possibilities. I am truly inspired by the current movements to embrace the broad spectrum of people. For any cisgender straight men who have read this far, I salute you as sewing has always brushed up against the social norms more ascribed to the feminine role. I say “Keep pressing forward”. I applaud a society that would even partially embrace the tearing down of artificial constructs allowing everyone to explore their passions. I would never have thought it would happen in my lifetime. I invite you to join me on the journey of self-expression through apparel.

- COVID brought me backGo Back It was the momentous day that I am sure we will all remember years from now. Where were you when the Government ordered the entire populace into shutdown? A Little of What I Did During COVID
The following are some artistic interpretations, in the form of embroidery, of images and things that either inspire me or just make me smile.
As I have discussed on the page about machine embroidery, COVID has brought me back the world of sewing and design. These masks are a sampling of the ones I have made and given to friends during lock-down in hopes they will brighten spirits for the wearer as well as those they encounter.
Successful people do what unsuccessful people are simply unwilling to do.
